BUT WE HAVE THE MIND OF CHRIST

2/4/18

1 Cor 2

6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 8 Which none of the princes of this world knew:for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.

No man knows the thoughts of another man because they are contained within that person, hidden from all view and perception. And yet, we are told that we have the mind of Christ. And if then we have the mind of Christ we discern those things that are hidden from all view.

However, we are given the Spirit of Christ not to see those things that are hidden within others so as to be critical of the motives or thoughts of another, but rather that we would know and be aware of the things that have been freely given to us, so that we might understand the purposes and mind of Christ in us.

The mind of Christ involves comparing spiritual things with the spiritual. In other words, this wisdom is not about the material things of this world but it involves those things of the Spirit. It involves those things that are seated at the right hand of God. These things of God far outweigh and diminish the value of man’s wisdom in every way. For this wisdom while it is said to be a mystery as such, it is that Christ is in us. While it seems to be a mystery and it is, there is a simplicity of understanding in that if He is ‘in us’then we possess the same Spirit that He is. But this in no way means that we are Him in any way, as some in other religions might state. We are told that we will be ‘like Him’ when we see Him face-to-face.

As one is being changed daily into the image of God then slowly the old man is being burned away. And yet as we well know, we struggle still with those things of our flesh. But even as we struggle, yet the mind of Christ is in us ever-speaking and abiding within us daily, conforming and renewing us through His Spirit.

The Spirit searches those things that are deeply hidden within God. It is like a deep well that holds water, and as the water is drawn from the depths one then tastes those things that were gathered there. But this well has no bottom to it, for it is an everlasting well that springs forth from the very throne of God. And the well while it may seem to contain water in the natural, rather it holds and transmits the things of God to us and through us. The water would transform us daily as each drop of it comes, it is slowly changing us and renewing our minds into His image.
